One of the most commonly enjoyed dishes is the peanut, and it’s so popular that it can be enjoyed in other forms and variations, too!

Even peanuts have a pretty unique look when they’re still in their textured shell, and that can mean learning to draw a peanut is easier said than done.

How To Draw A Peanut

Step 1

In this tutorial on how to draw a peanut, we’ll draw some peanuts of different shapes to show how different the appearance of a peanut can be.

To do this, we will first draw some unpeeled peanuts before we start drawing the peeled variants.

These are drawn as rounded shapes with sharp points on the edge. We will draw three such peanuts, and the left one is half.

Finally, before moving on to the next step of the tutorial, you can draw a wavy line over these exposed peanuts.

This will form the basis for the shelled peanuts we’ll draw shortly. Then, you are ready for the second step of the guide!

Step 2

Continuing with your peanut drawing, we’ll draw more outlines for the shelled peanuts you started in the previous step.

Above the wavy line you drew, add three rounded shapes for the peanuts in this bowl. The reference image shows you how to place these shelled peanuts.

So once you’ve drawn those three peanuts inside the shell, you can outline the shell around them. That’s all for this step, so you’re good to go!

Step 3

In this third step of our How to Draw a Peanut guide, you’ll finish drawing the inside edge of the peanut shell containing the three peanuts you drew in the last step.

Using two wavy lines, we’ll create a border around the bottom edges of the three peanuts in the shell. You can do this by carefully drawing lines around them.

Once this border has been drawn and looks like our reference image, the outline of the shell is complete, and we can move on to the other peanut shells in the next few steps.

Step 4

In this fourth step of the tutorial, we’ll add more peanut shells to your peanut design.

The first one leans against the other one you drew, so it’s half open.

This peanut contains only two instead of three. Besides that difference, it will look similar to the open peanut you drew earlier.

We will then draw another peanut shell, but unlike the others, this one will be completely closed.

You can draw this peanut with a curved line to create the shape we show in the reference image. Then, in need to add a few final details!

Step 5

To round out the final details of this how-to guide on how to draw a peanut, we’re going to add some texture to the outer shells of the peanuts.

If you’ve ever seen a peanut shell, you know that the outer surface of the shell has a rough, segmented texture.

We will draw This type of texture on the outer shell before colouring the image in the next step.

To draw this texture, we’ll draw several rounded shapes to create a pattern on the rough outer edge of the shells.

Once these patterns are drawn, your picture can be coloured! Add a background or draw other treats to complete this peanut scene.

Step 6

Now, you can complete the peanut drawing by adding some colour. We’ve opted for a more realistic and muted colour scheme in our reference image.

To do this, we used darker shades of brown for the nuts and different nuances to make them appear shinier.

We then used lighter shades of brown for the outer shells to further enhance the textured look.
